What is about this car, That make you happy to drive it? Its not the big horse power v8, Its not the luxery, It is what you need to drive and thats about it. So what is it about an old vw? What got you the bug about vw?
I guess for me, My mother got one when I was kid. A white 68 bug. I dont know why but i loved that car. My mother didnt how ever and sold it and got a 74 chevlle. My brother loved that car, and had later got himself a 73. But for me it was the bug. over the years I got my bug, a 68 red and 71 super red as well. But I was young and could not afford to keep up with them. had gone some years in between but now had gotton myself my 73 yellow bug. I must say back in love with the bug once agian. Although Its not the nicest bug on the road she is sound and runs good. But I love to tinker and work on her. I have taken acouple of trips in it this past summer. Everywhere I had stop. To get gas, food, or whatever. Some one had something to say. Wow me and wife had one of thous when we frist got married. Or I had one in collage. Even had a guy ask me if he could smell the inside.
Or is it getting back to basic? Air, fuel, spark? The simplisity of the car. Well if your a do it yourselfer. Then you know this car in it simpility has alot if ins and out ticks and quwercks. That can have you scracking your head, and flustrated to the point of I m going to sell this pice of @#$$. Then you find out its just something small that you overlooked. And bam there you are cruising down the street with a big smile on your face. A guy once told me to own a beetle is a love/ hate relationship. LOL.
Well whatever it is?? Once it get under your skin your hooked. Weather its a bug or ghia, and bus. I have meet the best people in a vw. and contine to. So I ask you all what is it that got you hooked on an old vw?

Hiya Robert,

For me it's nostalgia.

When I was but a youth I had a 1960 Bug And I built a dune buggy out of a 1966 pan and transaxle.  I put a Corvair engine in that one because I had also tinkered on Corvairs.  Guess I just liked air-cooled engines.  I put cars aside while I did the career thing and built a family.  But when I finally had the time (and the money!) to start tinkering around with cars again I naturally gravitated towards VWs.

i was a terror of a child and the only thing that i stopped running for was watching the herbie series.

Anyone with a semblance of a heart will actually show emotion if you can get em to watch a Love Bug movie, I have liked beetles since I was a kid, sure I did the Super modern fast cars, but I tell you after takeing 2.5hrs to change plugs on my 97 Camero I was pissed I had to lift the engine off the motor mounts to get to 2 of em and all that Sacka Fracking Flashing AHHH made it a PITA to work on so going back in time to one of the best ICE engines designed by Ferdenand Porshe says it all simple to wrench on easy to identify whats what and 4 bolts and some hoses and the engines out! W/O a hoist! Love/hate indeed i believe the Complete idiots manual says that,
Also says duct tape a pair of vise grips and flat head will get you home 9 times outta ten, who could complain? Well we all could but who would listen? Were driving 40 year old cars?! HEHE
