Mike,
      Great stuff on these and the carbs (I'll add my AUS carb flange numbers etc later), but you may want to check the DVDA timing specs. 5* ATDC with both hoses connected IIRC.

I must have spent too much of my time checking for typos in the parts numbers.  After reading your post I went back and looked at my notes for 71 through 73 and "hoses connected" was there for each entry.  I guess that's what happens when one cuts and pastes a little too freely.

In any event, it's been changed and thanks for doing the proofreading!

Interesting...  My VIN says my VW is a 1969, but my dizzy is a 1968 model.  113 905 205P  I think I did find out though from my engine code that my VW was an early 69, maybe they used some left overs from 68 to finish her off???

Hiya Chris,

VW did have a reputation for using up their production line supply of parts even if it meant carrying them over into another year's production.  So, it's entirely possible that you may have a dizzy originally on the 68 production line but held over for the 69 production line.  Of course, on the other hand, POs have been known to do way crazier stuff than just switching out distributors.

VW YEAR = 1969 cars were made from 1st August 1968 to 31st July 1969

so an early 69 model may relate to a car made in 1968...

VW Factories did their major changes during the summer holidays in July-August.. each year..

Im looking for an original distributor to replace my crappy 009 ideally I need a 113 905 205AH but I can only find a
113 905 205AJ which I think is for a manual transmission, my year model is '71. Would this work?

Hiya Chris,

According to what I could find you have two OEM options with your 71............

The 113 905 205AH or a 043-905-205D.

anything could have happened at Volkswagenwerks..
I read some pages from the wolfsburg factory a long time ago...
it said ALL the changes that were made in the factory...
like " 500 longer bolts were used on between 12th April and 3rd May ? bolts were 75mm long instead of 70mm long...  ??i   lol
"different batches of clutch plates used with different lining material"

very interesting.. so they may have had a batch of 1968 Distributors they used in 1969..

maybe, the OEM manufacturers didn't have enough clutches??  so, gave them an alternative clutch plate??   same with bolts.. dissies  etc..
